Chapel

Trinity Chapel

The Chapel is at the centre of Trinity College.

It was built at the end of the seventeenth century on the site of Trinity’s first chapel, the former Durham College chapel, which was consecrated over 600 years ago. It continues to be a place of worship and a space at the heart of the college where people come to pray, to sit quietly, listen to or play music, and enjoy its beauty.

This Term's Services

You can view the Trinity Term Termcard online.

Services In the Chapel

The main Sunday service in term time is Choral Evensong. The service starts at 6pm and all are welcome.

Evensong is sung by the Chapel Choir. The choir is mainly made up of Trinity students and is directed by the Organ Scholars. More information about the choir can be found on the choir website.

Sermons at Evensong are given by a range of guest preachers and aim to be both accessible and thought-provoking.

Compline is sung to plainchant fortnightly and there are also other sung services in term time, ranging from lunchtime Communion services to late night Taize service.

Termly concerts take place in the Chapel and the grand piano is available for students to play when the Chapel is open.

The Founder's Tomb

Trinity’s is the only chapel in Oxford to contain the tomb of the college founder: Sir Thomas Pope is buried with his wife Elizabeth and their monument is to the left of the altar.  They and all Trinity’s benefactors are remembered week by week in our prayers.

The College Chaplain

Joshua Brocklesby is our College Chaplain. He organises chapel services in college and oversees the Chapel, the organ scholars and the Chapel Choir. He also offers pastoral care for the College community, covering staff, students, fellows and alumni. The college is a diverse community welcoming people of different faiths and he offers support to students of all faiths in appropriately marking religious festivals.
