Professorial Titles for Ian Hewitt and Stefano Evangelista

18 August 2022

Trinity College congratulates Ian Hewitt and Stefano Evangelista, who have been awarded the titles of Professor of Applied Mathematics and Professor of English and Comparative Literature in the University’s Recognition of Distinction awards for 2022. The criteria for the conferment of the title of full professor include research, teaching and good citizenship.

Ian Hewitt teaches applied mathematics and his research involves developing and solving mathematical models to help understand problems in Earth Science, Physics and Engineering. He has a particular interest in the behaviour of ice sheets, investigating both how they are currently melting, but also how they have grown and shrunk in the past – understanding this is important for forecasting and interpreting the current rapid climate change.

Stefano Evangelista teaches 19th and 20th century English, and his research focuses mainly on the literature of the fin de siècle. He specialises in comparative literature, the reception of classical antiquity, the relationship between literature and visual culture, and the study of gender. His most recent book is entitled Literary Cosmopolitanism in the English Fin de Siècle: Citizens of Nowhere (2021).
