Andrew McNey

  • I am a Stipendiary Lecturer in History;
  • I research environmental histories of the eastern Mediterranean during the Long Late Antiquity;
  • My main interest lies in the integration of the climate sciences, archaeological material and historical texts to elucidate narratives of resilience in rural communities;
  • My research is funded by the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Clarendon Fund.

Teaching

I teach the paper on Archaeology to first year history students at Trinity college. I also deliver outreach workshops for the History Faculty as a Graduate Outreach Tutor. I am a Researcher in Residence as part of the outreach programme with the History Faculty. 

Research

I conduct interdisciplinary investigations into the past through the integration of archaeological, historical, archaeobotanical, papyrological and paleoclimatic data. I have worked as a field excavator at Yavneh and Tel Azekah. I supervised excavations at Ancient Corinth with the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
