Trinity Monday Celebration Goes Online

While coronavirus has put an end to large events in college, the annual Trinity Monday feast day will still be commemorated. This year the College invites all members, friends and the public to enjoy a video explaining the significance and history of the occasion and relive past celebrations.

Trinity Monday is the College’s most important feast day, which this year falls on Monday 8 June. The origin of this event dates back to the College’s foundation, when the original statutes, signed by our founder Sir Thomas Pope, set aside a significant proportion of the College’s budget every year for the celebration of Trinity Sunday (that is, the first Sunday after Pentecost).

At some early point in the College’s history, the feast moved from Trinity Sunday to Trinity Monday. The preceding service in Chapel became an opportunity to commemorate the College’s benefactors, and the meal in Hall a way to celebrate wider college life.
