Reflecting on Life After University Challenge Celebrity

31 August 2022

Trinity College Classics Fellow and former University Challenge competitor Gail Trimble has been featured in the BBC’s documentary University Challenge at 60.

The programme aired on 29 August to mark 60 years on since University Challenge first appeared on British television. To celebrate the occasion and the show’s status holding the record for the UK’s longest running quiz, the documentary tells the stories behind some of the series most memorable contestants. Gail Trimble earned fame for her performance captaining the team at Corpus Christi, Oxford, when she was a postgraduate. She scored a high proportion of the team’s points and led the team to a number of spectacular victories in reaching the final.

The programme looks at her career since competing on the show, particularly her life as a Fellow and Tutor in Classics at Trinity. She says: ‘I really enjoyed competing on University Challenge for Corpus Christi College in 2008-9.  The media attention at the time was often bizarre, but it was fun to take part in this documentary looking back on my experiences and explaining a bit about what I’m doing now.  I’m proud of both!'

You can see Gail on the programme starting at around 44 minutes in on the BBC iplayer.
