Kate Burtonwood Named to Top Head Gardeners List

13 June 2022

Trinity Head Gardener Kate Burtonwood has been named to the Top 150 UK Head Gardeners list by Horticulture Week magazine.

The list is compiled by consulting with experts from organisations including the National Trust, English Heritage and the Professional Gardeners’ Guild. It was first published last year and has been expanded this year.

Kate Burtonwood says: ‘I am thrilled to be included on this list alongside some great names in UK horticulture who have mentored and inspired me. I feel our inclusion, along with the other top gardens in Oxford, reflects the incredible efforts the team have made to restore and replant our grounds after the Levine building work.

‘We are so happy that college is now starting to open up again for people to visit the gardens. I’m also committed to upholding professional standards in horticulture, so training our Apprentice and widening the scope of the team’s work with new plantings in college has also been a great part of these efforts over my first 18 months in post.’

Kate Burtonwood joined Trinity in January 2021 and has overseen a major transformation and restoration of the college gardens with the construction of the Levine Building and its new landscaped Library Quad garden. She is particularly interested in using sustainable gardening methods and supporting biodiversity in college.
