Life as a

Trinity Postgraduate

Life as a

Trinity Postgraduate

Trinity's Middle Common Room, or MCR, is both a physical room in one of Trinity's historic buildings and the term for the community of all our postgraduate students. We usually have about 140 graduate students, so big enough to make a range of friends, but small enough that individuals can feel a part of life in college. As an MCR member, you will meet fellow postgraduates from some thirty different countries (and counting!), undertaking degrees and projects from political forecasting and classical theatre to vaccine development. Whether you’ve come directly from an undergraduate degree in the UK or are returning to study as part of your career development, you’ll have the chance to make friends with people whom you will see daily around college and the city centre.

The MCR regularly organise social events, from a weekly MCR pizza night (with free pizza), thrice-termly BOPs ("big organised parties"), regular pub trips, film nights, sports events and matches, croquet sessions on the lawns, and, in good weather, trips to the river with the new MCR dinghies! There is also a free weekly yoga session in college run by an excellent teacher and a book club that meets weekly. All MCR members are welcome and encouraged to introduce new ideas for events.

MCR Gala dinner at Trinity College

The MCR social secretaries organise exchange dinners with other colleges to eat in their halls, and host a return leg at Trinity. These are great opportunity to meet new people and dine in other Oxford colleges, and the MCR has close relationships with postgraduates in many neighbouring colleges.

The physical MCR room acts as an informal social and study space, kitted out with speakers, a projector, flat-screen TV, an Xbox and coffee machine. It's in Trinity's Broad Street site making it a wonderful location right in the centre of Oxford, overlooking the entrance to the Bodleian, and it's only a short walk or bike ride from our off-site accommodation.

What is Life

Really Like?

The Trinity

MCR

As a postgraduate, you automatically become a member of the Middle Common Room (MCR). The MCR plays an active role in organising postgraduate social events, and works with college committees and officers to ensure a positive student experience for postgraduates.
