How postgraduate applications are assessed

All graduate applications to Oxford are first assessed by the department or faculty. If you are accepted for a place by the relevant department or faculty, your application will then come automatically to your preferred college. (If you have not stated a college preference on your application form, the University Graduate Admissions Office allocates your application to a college.)

You can find out whether your chosen programme of study is offered at Trinity by consulting the relevant graduate course page on the University website.

Applications are considered at Trinity College by the Senior Tutor and the tutors in the relevant subject. The final decision on whether to offer a place, in the light of the overall competition for places, is taken by the Senior Tutor. The college admits a certain number of graduate students to Trinity each year, spread across the range of subjects in which it accepts graduate students. This will determine the number of offers which can be made in any given year.

Where there are more applicants than places, the relative academic strength of applicants is taken into account. Preference may be given to applicants working in subjects which correspond to our tutors’ fields of expertise. Preference may also be given to current or past students of the college who meet the selection criteria described above.

Please note that it is not usually possible to make offers to those applicants whose applications are received late in the admissions round, when our places are already full.

For a comprehensive guide to making your postgraduate application, including a description of fees and available funding, please visit the Graduate Admissions section of the University website. For information on the courses accepted by Trinity College specifically, please visit our page on the Graduate Admissions site.

What happens if you are offered a postgraduate place at Trinity College

If your application is successful, you will be made an offer of a place at Trinity. Your offer will be processed by our Graduate and Academic Administrator (academic.administrator@trinity.ox.ac.uk). It will be subject to your fulfilling the academic criteria specified by the department or faculty, and submitting a satisfactory Financial Declaration. Once you fulfil these requirements, we shall look forward to welcoming you to Trinity’s postgraduate community!

What happens if you are not offered a postgraduate place at Trinity College

If your application for a postgraduate course is not accepted, the department or faculty you applied to will inform you of the outcome.

If your application has been accepted by the department or faculty you applied to, but we are not able to offer you a place at Trinity College, you will be notified by the University Graduate Admissions Office and your application will be considered by other colleges.

Full information about the outcome of your postgraduate application and college placement can be found in the After You Apply section of the University’s Graduate Admissions website.
