Clinical Specialist Advisor - Radiology

Simon Braithwaite

  • I am a radiology registrar with an interest in interventional radiology.
  • I enjoy the small group teaching provided at Oxford. Students can get more involved and working with the same students means we can target their individual strengths and weaknesses to ensure they are successful in their exams and future careers.
  • My research centres around interventional radiology and its role in the future care of patients.

Profile

I am a radiology registrar at Oxford University Hospitals NHS trust.

I graduated from UCL with MBBS and an iBSC in surgical sciences. I completed my foundation training in London before moving abroad to work in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. On returning to the UK, I joined the team at Oxford University Hospitals, where I am currently an interventional radiology registrar.

I am a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Radiology inspires me because it is a specialty at the forefront of medical advance. It covers all aspects of medicine and surgery with a vital role in the MDT care of patients.

Teaching

As a Clinical Advisor I provide small group tutorials for clinical students at Trinity College.

I tailor the sessions to the individual student’s experience. The aim is to equip students with the tools required to interpret common radiology examinations that are encountered on the wards.

Research

I am involved in a number of research and quality improvement projects within radiology. Recent research includes publishing interventional radiology case reports and presenting work at international conferences on cervical spine intervention.
