Georgina Fooks

I am a Stipendiary Lecturer at Trinity and a current DPhil student in Spanish, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Clarendon Fund and the Trinity Christie Miller Scholarship. I studied for a BA in French and Spanish at Merton College, Oxford, then worked for a few years before returning to Oxford for my MSt and now my DPhil. In 2023, I was a visiting researcher at the Museo Moderno in Buenos Aires. Alongside my research, I am also a practising translator, having studied poetry translation at the BCLT Summer School.

I teach translation from Spanish to English to first-year and fourth-year undergraduates, and I teach modern Spanish American literature (Paper VIII) and Spanish American authors (Paper XI).

My current project explores the idea of a translational poetics, researching two Argentine poets – Alejandra Pizarnik and Susana Thénon – who move between languages and images in order to create expanded networks of expression. My research interests include queer and postcolonial literature in Latin America, translation, and the visual arts.
