Profile

Having completed my undergraduate degree in Materials Science at Trinity College (2020-2024), I am now studying for a DPhil in Materials at Corpus Christi College. My interests lie in an understanding of the relationship between the structure and properties of materials. It’s through a deeper understanding of this relationship over the last century year that has allowed us to engineer new materials, driving the advancement of new technologies. 

Research

My DPhil is based on simulating the deformation of metals at high temperatures. At the atomic scale the deformation of metals is controlled by the creation of defects which are imperfections in the crystal structure. An accurate understanding of the structure of these defects requires a quantum mechanical description of their local bonding. This is achieved through the use computer codes which have been developed to solve the quantum mechanical equations. 

In addition I also have research interests in using quantum mechanics to simulate nuclear magnetic resonance spectra in Li-ion battery materials.
