Alexander Hughes

My doctoral research explores the relationship between sexual violence and women’s expression. I have previously worked at the UK Supreme Court, the European Court of Human Rights, and Latham & Watkins. 

I teach Criminal Law at Trinity. I also teach Criminal Law and Torts at St Edmund Hall and Lady Margaret Hall. I have previously taught at Harris Manchester College and King’s College London.

My doctoral research explores how women’s expression is shaped and undermined by sexual violence, and how the law’s failure to understand this harm informs its responses to claims involving sexual violence.

Beyond my DPhil, my research focuses in particular on how gender-based violence is addressed under the European Convention on Human Rights.
