Oxford Preservation Award for refurbishment of the Dining Hall, Kitchen, and SCR

Last week, Trinity was delighted to receive a prestigious Highly Commended award from the Oxford Preservation Trust (OPT) for the recent refurbishment of the Dining Hall, Kitchen, and Senior Common Room. The project has enhanced the student experience through a new appropriately sized servery, enhanced acoustics in the hall, and the addition of an accessible lift.

The OPT Awards celebrate the contribution that projects, both large and small, make to Oxford’s character and communities. Trinity College’s refurbishment of its Grade I listed buildings was nominated in the Adaptive Re-use category, which recognises projects that breathe new life into Oxford’s existing buildings, adapting them for modern life while retaining their historic character and significance.

The judges praised the project for its “considerate design approach, respecting the historic fabric,” and were particularly impressed by the integration of the lift, which provides disabled access to all floors.

Estates Bursar Chris Ferguson commented, “Congratulations to the whole team involved in designing and delivering such a successful project. It was an ambitious scheme that had to overcome a number of complex engineering challenges in a way that was sympathetic to our beautiful Grade I listed buildings. We are delighted that the OPT judges appreciated the outcome!”

Founded in 1927, the Oxford Preservation Trust works to protect and enhance the city of Oxford. The Trust promotes thoughtful development and high-quality new design, while safeguarding historic buildings and Oxford’s much-valued green spaces.
