Weird, Wild and Wonderful Competition

This summer we are inviting all Trinity members to engage with nature, plants and outdoor spaces wherever you are. Studies have shown that gardening and spending time in nature are good for mental health and wellbeing, so why not share your ‘green’ experience with the rest of the Trinity community?

To make this competition as easy as possible all we’re asking you to do is enter a photo in one or more of the following categories— no need to grow anything extra special, unless you want to!

Categories

Creative Containers — what unusual item have you planted flowers/vegetables in? We’re looking for something different or a little bit wacky.

Fabulous Fauna — over the past year there have been tales of the wildlife returning e.g. goats in Llandudno, or foxes in Trinity. What wildlife will you see in your green space this summer?

Gorgeous Gardens — maybe you can’t find anything for one of the other categories; just submit a photo of your garden/balcony/pot plant/conservatory...

(Im)Perfect Produce — we’re not looking for the biggest marrow or juiciest tomato but one, or more, of your ‘wonkier’ homegrown fruit/vegetables.

Wonderful Walls and Windows — perhaps you don’t have access to a garden but you have orchids, herbs or succulents on your windowsill; or maybe you have a living wall or a hanging basket planted with colourful flowers?

About the challenge

Entries from students, staff, Fellows, Old Members and Friends will be accepted up until 31 August 2021.

The competition will be judged by members of the Gardens Committee: Kate Burtonwood, Head Gardener, Professor Dame Frances Ashcroft DBE and Thomas Knollys, Alumni Relations Officer.

They will be joined by special guest judge, actress Jane Seymour OBE, who is the partner of David Green (1968) (pictured in their Malibu garden). Jane has always loved gardens and is looking forward to seeing your photos.

The winning entry in each category will receive a prize and the overall winner will be invited to a personal tour of Trinity's gardens with Kate, Head Gardener. However, this will not be until 2022 when much of the gardens will have been revitalised following the completion of the Levine Building.
