What am I most proud of as a woman?
I am a member of Girlguiding having been a leader for a Guide unit in North Oxford for 15 years – I set it up in 2004 whilst a student at Trinity and still run it now, I was also District Commissioner in charge of nine units during the last year of my degree and for another 4 years after that. Girlguiding is a great organisation allowing girls and young women space to be themselves, have fun and learn new skills. I am so proud to think of all the girls I have seen grow and mature over the years, all the wonderful people I have met and all the places I have visited including centres in Switzerland and India. (The photo is when I allowed the girls to practice face painting on me!)
I am about to start my second term as President of Soroptimist International Oxford & District Club. Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organisation with consultative status at the UN and the aim is to transform the lives of women and girls across the world through a network of clubs and partnerships. We work to educate, empower and enable women and girls to reach their full potential in local communities and throughout the world. The club meets once a month and participate in Programme Action projects raising money to support both local and international charities and lobbying the government about important matters.
