What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced to date as a woman?

Motherhood is wonderful and complicated, and is by far the greatest challenge I’ve faced. On the one hand, I have rekindled my interests in drawing and colouring within the line, in making figurines out of Play-Doh, and I’ve realised again how wonderful it is to just be silly. At the same time, motherhood means that I have had to revise my priorities quite radically, as my life is now given over to someone else. This is not an easy transition, or an easy negotiation to tackle on a daily basis, particularly for someone with a demanding academic job. I relish those moments in which life teaches me I cannot take myself too seriously, and I congratulate myself for holding all my forts, which bring so much happiness to my life.
