Garden Photography Competition Winners Engage with Nature

30 September 2021

Four Trinity College alumni, staff and students have been named winners of this year’s Weird, Wild and Wonderful garden photography competition.

This summer the college invited all Trinity members to engage with nature, plants and outdoor spaces by entering photos in a range of categories; the winners were chosen by a committee including members of Trinity’s Garden Committee, along with special guest judge, actress Jane Seymour OBE, who is the partner of Trinity Old Member David Green (1968).

Second-year undergraduate Kyriacos Foti was named the winner of the ‘Creative Containers’ category for his photo of air plants arranged in beakers. The judges commented: 'We were struck by Kyriacos’s enthusiasm for gardening and garden photos. We liked the interesting containers and effort to grow something differently, combined with the reference to studying and college life.'

Emeritus Fellow, Russ Egdell was named the winner of the ‘Fabulous Fauna’ category for a striking image of a spider in its web wrapping an insect. The judges described it as 'a really eye-catching and precise image showing nature in action.'

Old Member Richard Jarman (1968) captured the ‘Gorgeous Gardens’ category with a back garden shot that the judges described as 'a fantastic capture of light and texture in a beautiful garden.' His picture was also named overall winner of the competition.

Postgraduate Hannah Jones’s assortment of marrow, carrot and cucumber won the ‘(Im)perfect Produce’ category; the judges found the image  'highly entertaining and spot on the brief for the category.'

There were also several highly commended images in each category:

Creative Containers: Martin Prozesky (1966)

Fabulous Fauna: Ashley Mooney (1979)

Gorgeous Gardens: Brenda Bassett, Scout

(Im)perfect Produce: Bogdan Staniaszek (1978)
