Admissions Interviews at Trinity: Advice for Candidates

2 December 2021

With undergraduate admissions interview invitations going out this week, both subject tutors and shortlisted candidates will be working hard to prepare for the two weeks of online interviews this year.

Ahead of the start of interview period, Trinity’s Senior Tutor Dr Rebecca Bullard shares a message and some advice to those preparing for their Oxford interview:

Congratulations to everyone who has received an invitation to interview for a place at Trinity College. Our Tutors are really looking forward to meeting and talking with you over the next few weeks.

Having an interview is exciting, but it can sometimes be stressful too. Our Tutors understand that: they have lots of experience in helping applicants to perform at their academic best. They’re on your side and they want you to do as well as you possibly can.

As Senior Tutor and Tutor for Admissions, I oversee the Admissions process here at Trinity. So what advice can I offer to our applicants?

First, make sure that you’ve read all the documentation that we send you really carefully – especially the details about when your interview is taking place, and what technology you require. You should also take a look at the advice that Oxford University offers to applicants; it’s full of helpful information and answers to frequently-asked questions.

Second, come and join one of our informal, student-led online drop-in sessions for Trinity applicants, which will be running daily between Sunday the 5th and 14th December from 5-6pm. You’ll be sent a link by email, so look out for that and come along to meet some of our current students.

Finally, enjoy yourself! You’ve been invited to interview because our Tutors recognize that you have real academic potential. Your interview gives you a wonderful opportunity to engage in stimulating conversation about your chosen subject.

We hope that you have a great time at your interview, and we look forward to meeting many of you here at Trinity next October. All the very best of luck!
