A lecture given by His Excellency Dr Bima Arya Sugiarto, Mayor of Bogor City, West Java, Indonesia, and arranged by DPhil student Putu Natih, has been held at Trinity.
Putu Natih has conducted surveys on poverty indicators in Bogor City in 2016 for her DPhil thesis and results from her DPhil work have led to the formulation of a poverty measurement and mapping tool, which aims to aid the local government of Bogor City in its poverty alleviation policies.
Made possible with the support of Trinity’s Graduate Conference Fund, the lecture was on ‘The Role of Evidence Based Policy in Poverty Alleviation in Bogor City’. Dr Sugiarto outlined how Putu’s thesis results helped form Bogor City’s current most innovative policies in tackling the many dimensions of poverty in the city: policies on increasing access to education and healthcare; awareness of the importance of immunization; increasing knowledge on and access to contraception; and maintaining safe environments from pollution and crime, among others.
The lecture was followed by a lively question and answer session. Among those present were the Vice Mayor of Bogor City, Mr Dedie Rachim and representatives from Bogor City’s District Development Body and from Indonesia’s Investment Coordinating Board London Office.
