Year 12 students from schools in the North East are warmly invited to book in for a residential stay in Trinity college, which will include free travel to and from Oxford together by coach and two nights in college accommodation, fully catered. This fully-funded event is designed to enable students to experience the University Open Days and gain application guidance, advice and support from our access and outreach teams. The event will include sessions on Oxford applications and how to make the most of the Open Day, as well as offering Q&A and discussion sessions with undergraduates. There will also be plenty of opportunities to speak to students more informally while travelling on the coach, at meal times and during undergraduate-led social activities in the evenings.
For the first time, this year the college is also running a free North East Residential Open Day Conference for Teachers who will be supporting candidates to make an application to Oxford, Cambridge or other selective universities. Teachers can book onto the free coaches travelling to and from Oxford and are invited to stay for two nights in college accommodation, fully catered, which will include a welcome dinner hosted by Trinity College’s President, Dame Hilary Boulding. The event will be led by Trinity’s Head of Access, Hannah Rolley, who will run a variety of support sessions for teachers covering Oxford and the application process, how to write the teacher’s reference, what makes a competitive application and a number of Q&A sessions relating to supporting students’ applications to selective universities. Teachers will also be supported to access a range of Open Day events such as observing mock interviews.
Hannah Rolley, Head of Access at Trinity College, said: ‘We hope this opportunity will make it easy and stress-free for students and teachers from the North East to come and learn about the University and its application process in a practical and meaningful way. We’re particularly excited about the Residential Open Day Conference for Teachers, who we see as the instrumental professionals involved in providing young people the support they need to fulfill their academic potential. We want this event to be as supportive and informative as possible for teachers, ensuring they have access to all the guidance and information possible to confidently support their students throughout the application process. We are looking forward to meeting everyone in July!’
While the student and teacher events are separate, they are run in parallel during the Open Days, and the closing date for both applications is Friday April 5th.
