Music

Studying music as the organ scholar at Trinity is a real privilege

Benj, Music

Trinity welcomes applications for Music, including from prospective organ scholars. This is a three-year course, combining the theoretical, historical and practical study of music. Bach, Wagner, Film Music, psychological perspectives on performance all feature among the options offered recently on the course.

Teaching is organised by our Lecturer in Music, Dr David Maw. Tutorials are often arranged jointly with students at Oriel College. In addition, all undergraduates studying Music have lectures and some classes organised by the Faculty of Music, which is a short walk from Trinity.

Trinity also attracts many practising musicians studying other subjects, who are very high-level performers. We’ve had professional opera singers and violinists, world music groups and jazz bands; the President’s termly Concert is a great showcase for the diverse range of musicianship. In addition, we are privileged to have the violinist Maxim Vengerov as an Honorary Visiting Fellow of Trinity, who gives masterclasses in Trinity which our students are invited to attend.
